ENTRE News – Former United States President Donald Trump made rare comments regarding Israeli aggression in Gaza, Palestine. Trump’s remarks came in two separate recent interviews.
“I’m not sure if I like the way they [Israel] are doing it,” he said in the interview.
While interacting with Israeli media, Trump also warned that videos of bombs being dropped on buildings in Gaza paint a “very bad picture for the world.”
“Israel is completely losing the propaganda war,” he said.
On that occasion, Trump did not explicitly mention the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, such as the number of Palestinian civilian victims or the seven aid workers who died this week. However, the former US president’s criticism of Israel was a big step for him.
When Israel launched its aggression against Gaza in October 2023, Trump firmly expressed his support for the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He also often boasts of having done more for Israel than any other US president.
Under the Trump administration, the US abandoned the main principle of the two-state solution and unilaterally recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Trump also moved the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, sparking an international reaction.
In the eyes of experts, Trump’s ambiguity about Gaza actually fuels doubts. Danielle Pletka, a senior researcher at the FOR4D American Enterprise Institute (AEI) think tank, thinks Trump’s rhetoric sounds more like a media consultant.
“No one is completely sure of Trump’s views on this,” Pletka said.
He then said, “That’s not the president. That’s not policy, that’s more like an expert.” For some observers, Trump’s attitude is wishy-washy just to gain votes in the US election. The current US President and Trump’s potential opponent in the election, Joe Biden, has received criticism because of his attitude towards Israel.
