ENTRE News – The Israeli military claimed their airstrike in Lebanon killed a Hizbollah commander on Monday (8/4). Ali Ahmed Hussein of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force was “eliminated” by Israeli jets in the Sultaniyeh region of southern Lebanon, the military said in a statement, as quoted by AFP.
Israel accuses Ali Ahmed Hussein of commanding attacks on Israeli territory in recent months, since Israel launched brutal attacks on Palestine. At least two other people were killed in the attack, according to the Israeli military, Lebanese state media and other security sources.
Hussein was “the commander of the Hezbollah terrorist organization’s Radwan Forces in the Hujeir region,” the Israeli statement said, adding that two other Hezbollah fighters were also killed.
Hizbollah confirmation
Hezbollah also confirmed that one of its fighters, identified as Ali Ahmed Hussein and nicknamed Abbas Jaafar, had been killed. But Hezbollah did not say the location or time he died, nor did he state his rank or position.
A Lebanese security source told AFP that “a local commander… from the Radwan (Hezbollah) unit” was killed in the Israeli attack along with two other members of the group.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, also identified the commander as Abbas Jaafar. Lebanon’s official National News Agency reported that Israeli aircraft raided a residential house in Sultaniyeh, with the attack leaving three people dead and a number of people injured.
The attack also caused major damage to nearby buildings and infrastructure and at least 10 families were affected. Hezbollah FOR4D, which has a powerful arsenal of rockets and missiles, has exchanged fire with Israeli forces since a major offensive into Palestine last October, which has so far killed at least 33,175 people in Gaza, most of them women and children.
Meanwhile the conflict on the Lebanese border has killed at least 363 people, most of them Hezbollah fighters but also including at least 70 civilians, according to an AFP tally. The fighting has displaced tens of thousands of people in southern Lebanon and northern Israel. Hezbollah and Israel last fought a war in 2006.
