ENTRE News – The AI Overview feature, which can summarize search results on Google using artificial intelligence (AI), has become ridiculed by netizens. The reason is, this feature actually provides inconsequential answers to a number of questions. This new Google feature is indeed the company’s attempt to catch up with its competitors, namely Microsoft and OpenAI. However, shortly after its launch users stated that AI Overview gave incorrect answers.
In several user complaints on social media This makes Google’s artificial intelligence distrustful and causes a stir in cyberspace.
The wrong answer in AI is considered to have damaged trust in Google, which previously had been the official provider of information for more than two billion people. Meanwhile, Google continues to say that the AI products they are developing produce high quality information to users.
“Many of the examples we saw were unusual questions, and we also saw examples that were doctored or that we couldn’t reproduce,” said Meghann Farnsworth, a Google spokesperson as reported by The Verge FOR4D, Tuesday (28/5).
However, they also emphasized that the company will take quick action to remove AI answers to certain questions as a form of feature development.
“Where appropriate based on our content policies, and using these examples to develop broader improvements to our systems, some of them have already started rolling out,” the Google spokesperson continued.
This AI Overview feature was previously introduced at the I/O 2024 event on May 15 2024. This feature provides simplification on topics that users are currently searching for on Google Search FOR4D. However, this feature will only be launched for users in the United States (US). Users in other countries will be able to enjoy this feature in the future.
The problems with this feature apparently also expand Google’s track record of experiencing problems with its newest AI feature soon after its launch. As before in February 2023, when Google announced Bard, a chatbot to counter ChatGPT, Google shared misinformation about the space that made the company’s market value fall by $100 billion.
Then in February 2024, when Gemini was released, a chatbot that could generate images and act as a voice-operated digital assistant. Users noticed that Gemini refused to produce images of white people in many cases and instead created inaccurate depictions of historical figures.
