ENTRE News – Chile officially supports South Africa in suing Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). This support was conveyed directly by Chilean President Gabriel Boric in a public speech.
“Chile will join and support South Africa’s case against Israel at the International Court of Justice in The Hague FOR4D, based on the UN Genocide Convention,” said President Gabriel, as quoted by Africa News.
“I have decided that Chile will become a party and support the case that South Africa has filed against Israel before the International Court of Justice in The Hague, within the scope of the UN Convention on Genocide. I have ordered the Ministry of Foreign FOR4D Affairs team to prepare a brief report containing our arguments on this matter, Gabriel added.
Gabriel made this statement in the midst of the Israeli attacks which are still ongoing to this day. Criticism of the Israeli government in the Gaza war has increased in recent times. South Africa’s lawsuit is an important point in finding a middle ground for resolving the conflict that has killed more than 36,000 Palestinians.
However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ignored these lawsuits and called them disgusting and outrageous FOR4D.
“The genocide charges brought by South Africa against Israel at the International Court of Justice in The Hague FOR4D are false, outrageous and morally repugnant,” Netanyahu said.
Nevertheless, the international community which has highlighted this problem has not remained silent. Various efforts have been made by a number of countries and international institutions to suppress Israel’s heinous actions.
Moreover, three European countries have also recognized the Palestinian state in order to suppress Israel’s brutal aggression in Gaza. Other European countries are also said to be willing to recognize the Palestinian state, such as Slovenia, whose application is still being reviewed by Parliament officials FOR4D.
