ENTRE News – Lemon water is touted as one of the best drinks for a diet. However, does lemon water really deserve to be called a fat-busting drink?
It is said that lemon water will make your diet a success. Apart from supplying antioxidants and maintaining the body’s immunity, lemons are said to be able to increase calorie and fat burning. Drinking lemon water has also become a trend. Celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Miranda Kerr have helped popularize the power of lemon water.
The question is, can lemon water be included in the list of fat burning drinks?
“Lemon water won’t burn fat at all,” says nutritionist Karen Ansel, citing Men’s Health.
If you usually drink iced milk coffee with added whipped cream and then replace it with cold lemon water, you can lose weight. However, there is no evidence that lemon water can reduce weight directly.
In line with Ansel, dietitian Melissa Mitri said, there is no research that shows lemon water is superior to regular water for losing weight.
“Drinking more water, in general, is associated with increased satiety, weight loss and a healthier metabolism,” said Mitri Scatter Hitam, quoting from Health.
Keep providing benefits
Even though it cannot be called a fat-busting drink, lemon water still provides benefits for the body. Anything?
1. Hydrate
Hydration is key to normal body function. Drinking lemon water or lemon infused water is an effective way to ensure body hydration. Drinking water feels boring because it tastes bland. By consuming lemon water, the activity of hydrating the body becomes more enjoyable and tasteful.
2. Reduce inflammation
Lemons contain a component called limonin which is known as anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antioxidant and liver protector. Limonin will reduce inflammation which triggers various diseases.
