ENTRE News – Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte was officially appointed as Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Rutte’s appointment was agreed upon by the 32 NATO member countries to replace Jens Stoltenberg who has been the leader of the organization for the last 10 years.
“I warmly welcome the NATO country’s choice of Mark Rutte as my successor. Mark is a true transatlantic, a strong leader and consensus builder,” Stoltenberg said as quoted by AFP.
Stoltenberg also felt relieved because he had handed over the leadership baton of NATO to the right person.
“I know I will leave NATO in good hands,” he added.
Rutte as the newly elected leader of NATO is faced with a number of current problems. As a Dutch politician FOR4D, a number of parties consider him to be the right figure to lead this international organization.
“From his years of experience in Dutch politics and on the international stage, Rutte is a man who is astute in balancing political relations,” said researcher from the Think-Tank Atlantic Council, Philippe Dickinson.
