The shooting occurred while Trump was delivering a speech in front of his supporters. In the video circulating, you can hear the sound of multiple explosions. The following are the facts surrounding Trump’s shooting during the campaign.
Trump has a cut on his ear
Trump suffered an ear injury as a result of the shooting.
“I was shot with a bullet that went through the top of my right ear,” Trump said on the social media he created, Truth Social.
Trump said he felt something was going to happen because he heard the whirring. Currently, Trump has been released from the hospital. Trump clenched his fists after the shooting. When the bullets flew, Trump appeared to immediately hide behind the podium.
Secret Service members also rushed to secure Trump. When the situation was deemed safe, Trump emerged from hiding and appeared to stand up. He then clenched his fists. The Secret Service then took the presidential candidate to a medical facility.
Trump remains at the Republican convention
Trump is said to be ready to attend the Republican National Convention meeting next week after experiencing a shooting while campaigning in Pennsylvania. Trump campaign senior advisers, Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita, said the former president hoped to attend the major Republican rally.
“[Candidate] President Trump looks forward to joining all of you in Milwaukee as we move forward with the convention to nominate him to be the 47th President of the United States,” the senior adviser said.
They then said, “As our party’s nominee, Trump will continue to convey his vision to Make America Great Again.”
1 dead, 2 seriously injured
According to reports, one person was killed and two others suffered serious injuries as a result of the shooting. Those injured are still being treated in hospital. One law enforcement official said the incident was being investigated as possible attempted murder.
Shooter from the roof
Three US law enforcement sources said the shooter was outside the Trump campaign location. Two of the sources said the shooter was on the roof of a building outside the location. Various sources also refer to him as a sniper. However, until now the identity of the perpetrator has not been revealed. The US Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is also still examining the location and conducting an investigation.
World leaders have been busy condemning the shooting
A number of world leaders condemned the shooting at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. British Prime Minister-elect Keir Starmer condemned the shooting.
“We condemn all forms of political violence in the strongest possible terms and we convey our best wishes to [candidate] President Trump and his family at this time,” said the official release from the British PM’s office, quoted by Al Jazeera.
Condemnation of the shooting incident and solidarity with Trump also emerged from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
