ENTRE News – The FBI says the attempted assassination of US presidential candidate Donald Trump is being investigated as a potential act of domestic terrorism.
“We are investigating this as an attempted murder, but also view it as a potential act of domestic terrorism,” said Robert Wells, assistant director of the FBI’s counterterrorism division.
He added that the shooter acted alone and had no known ideology. Apart from that, the FBI also identified the weapon used by Thomas Matthew Crooks, the perpetrator of the shooting, as an AR-556 which he purchased legally.

Authorities believe the semi-automatic weapon was purchased by Thomas’ father, but do not yet know how he obtained the weapon or whether he took it without his father’s knowledge.
The perpetrator is said to have launched his action from the roof of a building outside the campaign location. He reportedly died after being shot by members of the Secret Service. Apart from that, the perpetrator reportedly also stored explosives in his car and residence.
US President Joe Biden previously said authorities still did not know the motive of the shooter who shot Donald Trump. Therefore, Biden asked all parties not to make wild assumptions about the motive of the shooter.
“We don’t have any information about the shooter’s motive. We know who he is. I urge everyone, please do not make assumptions about his motive or affiliation,” Biden said.
