ENTRE News – It is claimed that Iran will continue testing nuclear bomb detonators following increasing tensions with Israel in the Middle East. Three sources in Iran say Tehran is actively developing a nuclear weapons program that is getting closer to making a nuclear bomb by a number of means. These methods include restructuring the Organization for Defensive Innovation and Research (SPND) and retaining Mohammad Eslami as head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran.
“[As well as] continuing tests to produce nuclear bomb detonators,” the Iran International report quoted an exclusive source as saying.
For years, United States intelligence agencies have maintained that Iran has no weapons development activities that can be tested. However, a 2024 Director of National Intelligence report said Iran was conducting activities that better positioned itself “to produce a nuclear device” if they chose to do so. According to sources Iran has also intensified its efforts to complete the nuclear weapons production cycle. This cycle includes high levels of uranium enrichment, production of nuclear detonation devices, development of missiles carrying nuclear warheads, and restructuring of the SPND.

In April, Iran’s parliament ratified a draft law (RUU) approving the formation of the SPND. SPND was transformed into an independent organization by law. This rule provides many benefits to the unit such as freedom from supervision by the National Audit Agency. One of SPND’s roles for Iran’s nuclear program is to develop nuclear detonators. The project reportedly continued secretly under the guise of “Project 110” after “Project Amad” was exposed in 2003. Iran’s test plans emerged when the Middle East was on the brink of war after Hamas boss Ismail Haniyeh was killed in Tehran. Iran accuses Israel of being behind the murder. They also vowed to retaliate and punish the Zionist regime harshly.
