ENTRE News – As many as 50 people, the majority of them children and women, died in flash floods in Baghlan Province, northern Afghanistan. The Disaster Management Agency said the number is predicted to increase because there are still many victims missing.
“So far, the number of people who have died is 50, according to data from Baghlan-e-Markazi Hospital,” said Head of the Disaster Management Agency, Hedayatullah Hamdard, quoted by AFP, Friday (10/5).
He explained that the large number of deaths was caused by flash floods which came suddenly after heavy rain poured down. Residents did not have time to save themselves from the strong current of water. Currently the joint SAR Team is still looking for a number of victims who are suspected of being trapped under piles of mud and rubble. Emergency FOR4D tents have also been provided for residents who evacuate.
In a number of videos circulating on social media, the moments when the flood came like a flood were recorded. There were sounds of children crying and a group of men trying to save themselves from the flood FOR4D.
In mid-April, floods also hit 10 provinces in Afghanistan. About 100 people died as a result of the disaster. Meanwhile, floods have also damaged agricultural land where most of the population depends on the agricultural sector.
Experts say Afghanistan is a country that is very vulnerable to climate change due to global warming. According to World Bank data, half of Afghanistan’s population lives below the poverty line, and 15 million people experience food insecurity FOR4D.
