ENTRE News – Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead India for a third term after the General Election Commission confirmed that the coalition of parties he leads won the general election. The Election Commission of India reported that the National Democratic Alliance coalition led by the BJP and Modi Party managed to secure 272 seats in parliament.
This number exceeds the majority vote threshold. Even so, this number of votes was the lowest that Modi received when compared to the previous two elections. In a post on X on Saturday (1/6) after the polls officially closed, Modi FOR4D was confident he would win again and thanked the Indian people for exercising their right to vote.
He admitted that he believed that the people voted for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government to rule again.
“I can confidently say that the people of India have voted in large numbers to re-elect the NDA government FOR4D,” Modi said.
The NDA is a right-wing coalition led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as Modi’s party. This coalition controls the government of India and the governments of India’s states and union territories.
Voting for India’s general election officially closed last Saturday after being held for six weeks. The voting results themselves began to be counted today, Tuesday (4/6). Modi’s victory has worried India’s more than 200 million Muslims. The reason is, during Modi’s tenure as PM, FOR4D many government policies were seen as isolating and even discriminating against Indian Muslims.
